Trivia for
John's Arm: Armageddon(2008)

  • Contains only 36 instances of the word "fuck", and only 13 instances of the word "shit". Words used far more frequently are compound words containing "ass", and the words "felch" and "abortion".
  • While recording the villain "Thereminotaur", Matty Boy Anderson burned out the mic jack on his $250 sound card when he lined a real theremin into it. Working around this had an unexpected benefit when it resulted in the use of Trout Hatchery Sound's digital mixing console, providing much clearer voice audio.
  • Created on a custom-built home computer, using Flash. The third and final draft of the script was 184 pages.
  • In 2003, Matty Boy Anderson and technical advisor Randy Rice attempted to create John's Arm: Armageddon as a computer game. When this proved to be more work than could feasibly be done by two people, Matty Boy Anderson eventually re-worked it as a feature-length movie script. Some of the backgrounds from the unfinished video game made it into the movie (for example, the "Czarbucks" coffee shop and the "E-Z Mark" store).
  • Every frame of every mouth was drawn individually with a stylus pad by Matty Boy Anderson. The animation is 20 frames per second, which made lip-synching an admittedly lengthly process. Characters with pointed teeth, like Bonk, or defined lips, like Snarleen, would take even longer to animate.
  • The vomiting sound effect was created by mixing voice, belching, water spattering, and compressed air sprayed into an open mouth.
  • Director Trademark: [Matty Boy Anderson] A character is tricked or forced into drinking urine.
  • "Burden Boulevard", a street named by a radio announcer as the opening titles begin, is named after Bob Burden, creator of "Flaming Carrot" and "Mystery Men".
  • Loudmouth, the villain who hosts a seminar about battle cries, was originally written for John Ritter.
  • "TOAD Commander" mentions that his henchmen's jumpsuits are colored "Martini olive". "Martini olive" was the name of the paint used on the walls of the old Pod studio, where all the voices were recorded.
  • Director Trademark: [Matty Boy Anderson] [unusual/absurd blasphemy] "Jesus Christ Almighty with a magic 8-ball up his ass." "Jesus eatin' fajitas."
  • The dialogue spoken by "Half-Ass", as Snarleen Balfungo vainly tries to interview him about MegaloManiaCon, is directly from Matty Boy Anderson's experiences as a convention guest.
  • The exterior of the boarding house owned by Willis' grandmother is based on the Atlanta house where Shaky J and "Stony Mike" Simcox once lived, near Little Five Points.
  • The sound made when Bonk hits Spif with his helmet was created by striking a railroad tie against an empty 20-gallon fishtank. Originally the plan was to smash the fishtank and record the sound, but neither Matty Boy Anderson nor sound technician Joey Pickles were able to even damage the glass with the metal spike, no matter how hard they hit it. Eventually they gave up and abandoned the tank, as the noise was attracting the wrong kind of attention. Ironically, the sound effect that they got is utilized numerous times in the film.
  • All the bone-cracking sounds were created by George P. Wallace and Matty Boy Anderson cracking their knuckles into the microphone.
  • The music for the "Quarter Eater" arcade game John plays is the old John's Arm theme, performed in a Doctor Who style by George P. Wallace.
  • In some wide shots of Atro City, the Gafdren building, owned by billionaire Donald Gafdren, can be seen. "Gafdren" is "nerdfag" spelled backwards.
  • The Wakamolian Greathorns all have girls' names. Two spoken examples are Harriet and Nicole.
  • "Chief Brendon" was inspired by Chief Brandon from the Dick Tracy comic strip. The mobsters are also an homage to Chester Gould's rogues' gallery.
  • Almost everything the Insomniac says is an obscure, paraphrased reference; one example is his "supercharged magical musical staff" line, from the legendary "Peace and Love" movie pitch.
  • "Kenneth Eissberg", the attorney, is based on the former CEO of the Winnebago company.
  • Technically, the movie covers 100 years in fictional "Atro City". The date on the newsreel that opens the movie is 1956. Originally, John's Arm: Armageddon (2008) was planned to be finished in 2006.
  • "Kraig Rizzo" is loosely based on Kevin Smith, particularly his role in Vulgar (2000).
  • The "Vaude-Villains" in the prologue are "Kleppto" and "W.C. Fiend".
  • The names of the unruly kids in the theater are Kyler, Brakota and Condon.
  • Some of the brainwashing stickers read "Intelligent Design Makes Perfect Sense To Me!" and "It's a Womb, Not a Woman".
  • Originally, the Cape & Mask Club scene featuring Hypno-Milf, Ultra Ocho and his sidekick included karaoke singing. This was cut, according to Matty Boy Anderson, because "I can't afford the rights to a fucking haiku."
  • The sign on the back of the Cape & Mask reads "Trespassers Will Be Mushroom-Printed".
  • One of the brainwashed people has a jersey that says "A-Feds", referring to the Atro City Federales football team.
  • Some of the graffiti in the city backgrounds is real, from photographs taken by Shaky J. Some of it comes from the wall of the old Pod studio, which had been tagged by almost everyone who had a role in the movie.
  • Willis takes Fidalin, Screwitol, and Cruise Control (Children's Formula).
  • Part of the final act is a shot-for-shot recreation of Unicron's transformation from Transformers: The Movie (1986).
  • The sign on Ernesto the mannequin reads "John- Leave Ernesto ALONE! He has FEELINGS"
  • When Willis first meets Lefty, there are two slices of pizza taped to the wall.
  • At Nacho Roboto, John's Arm gives John magazines: "Ebony Hero" and "Whore-Os" (heroes who work only for money and publicity). "Ebony Hero" has a picture of Negromortis, Master of Black Magic, from the all-black super team Onyx Omega.
  • It's more difficult and takes longer to get things on IMDb than you'd think, which is why it's good that everything on this page can be copied and pasted.

Stay tuned folks; there's lots more where this came from. And here's a real link you should check out right now: link
