JANUARY 18th is OSSIE DAY!
Just about anyone you ask knows why we celebrate OSSIE DAY. Sure, we celebrate it to memorialize how Ossie Davis helped Bruce Campbell save the old folks of the world from having their souls sucked out by a mummy. But Ossie Davis was so much more than an incredibly huggable-looking senior citizen. Did you know:
- He wrote the play the film "Purlie" was adapted from, and wrote and directed "Cotton Comes To Harlem".
- He spoke at the funerals of both Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X.
- He was SIX FOOT THREE!
- His brother holds the patent for the chemical process behind instant mashed potatoes!
- He was married to the legendary Ruby Dee for over FIFTY YEARS!
- He broke our hearts in "Do The Right Thing"! Everyone was so MEAN TO HIM!
So resolve not to Think With Sand, America. Remember Ossie on Ossie Day. He hung around so long (87 years!) we didn't know how crappy life would be without him in it. |
